Course 1- AFRO -CUBAN Dance of the Orishas- In this course we are going to be learning about Obbatala & Ochosi. We are having some guest teachersTime 6pm-7.05pm
OBATALA, the King of the White Cloth, is the oldest Orisha. He is considered to be the Father of all the other Orishas, and since they are kings and queens, for us, he is King of Kings. White is the colour of Obatala, representing purity and cleanliness and his children often wear white to please him and also as a protection. It is said that Obatala throws his white mantle over his children so that evil cannot touch them. Although some of the Obatalas are seasoned warriors, for the most part, Obatala is considered an Orisha of Peace. Obatala likes to see peace reign on earth and in heaven, among the other Orishas.
Ochosi is a hunter. He is the santo of hunting, as well as law, justice and prisons. He lives in the forest and his necklace is made up of yellow and blue beads. Ochosi, together with the santos Elegguá, Oggún and Osun are the warriors of Santería and the first four santos you receive upon initiation.Ochosi is identified with or associated in Catholicism with San Norberto and they are both celebrated on 6 June. His movements are energetic and great for improving coordination as well as improvisation skills.
