Céu with Curumin on Tour
Bristol, London, Manchester, Coventry, Gateshead, Brighton - April 18-24
“Sleek and assured, drawing on everything from Kingston dub to psychedelic rock, Erykah Badu-style R & B and cool jazz, all draped in elegant bossa shades.”

Sunday Times

“Céu is the future of Brazilian Popular Music” Caetano Veloso, Jornal do Brasil

Céu captivated the world with her self-titled debut album in 2008 earning both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, countless press accolades, and chart topping numbers and became the biggest selling Brazilian artist in the UK. Now she’s back with an acclaimed new album Caravana Sereia Bloom and her first tour.

Support comes from the rather wonderful singer and multi-instrumentalist Curumin (from the same Sao Paulo scene as CSS and Telepathique) - who spices up his samba funk with hip hop, dub and psychedelic infusions.

In London there is a special opening set from Lucas Santtana, "Rare, original, brilliant." - Drowned In Sound

A night of the best of new Brazilian music presented on tour by La Linea – The London Latin Music Festival with support from Arts Council of England.

The Destroyers + Marvrika
Sat 31 March Rich Mix London
With 15 musicians on stage, wild brass, violins, guitars, accordion, furious energy, flamboyancy, revolutionary fervour, and gung-ho style, The Destroyers are what Emir Kusturica would have come up with had he been born in Birmingham. They set their witty, high-energy commentary on the social condition to the most incredible music...

Plus radical Greek blues from rembetika rock rebels MAVRIKA. With not only the Greek economy near meltdown, the underground songs from the 1930s take on a reworked relevance.

DJ Fred Balkayou (Balkan Sonik) until 1am.

Capoeira Angola and beyond Master Class with Mestre Carlao
Saturday March 31st, 2012
Praxis Art Space 3-9 Belfast Rd. Stoke Newington
10am – 1pm
Cost £15

The movement and gestures of Capoeira Angola evoke the fight, dance, pleasure and pain of a cultural and historic movement and in some way evoke the slave journey and the rites of passage from Africa. It can be used to free ones physical rhythmical, vocal and musical expression, and as a metaphor and philosophical framework with which one can think about life. for all these reasons it has been used effectively as a tool for body conditioning, training and as an expressive form in both dance and theatre. Carlo Alexandre has developed a system where capoeira goes beyond the limits of tradition into the contemporary production of art and culture. One of his main objectives is that this system can serve as a tool for reflection and increased knowledge of ones physical limitations and strengths.
Carlo Alexandre Teixeira da Silva known internationally as Mestre Carlao is a renowned master in the Afro Brazilian Martial art of Capoeira Angola. He is a trained physiotherapist and incorporates his expertise into his teachings. He is a celebrated pedagog, running many international workshops (in Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, France, America, Portugal, Spain and Germany).

His Capoeira organization: Kabula (www.kabula. org) has branches both in Rio and London and strong connections to refugee organization: Bidna, working in various crisis areas around the world.
